Redwater, Alberta

The Sister Servants of Mary Immaculate were a special group of nuns who did their best to serve Ukrainians on the prairies. Wayne Malowany and Joe Prodaniuk of the Sts. Borys and Hlib Ukrainian Catholic Church in Redwater, AB remember that the sisters would come from Mundare every year. The sisters would run catechism classes, preparing children for their first communion. But religious instruction was not the only thing that the sisters offered. According to Wayne and Joe, the sisters did a variety of fun activities as well. Both men remember fondly how the Sisters liked to engage the children in creative arts and sports. One of their special memories is that the sisters, wearing their full-length habits, would play baseball with them and the other catechism students.
