Sts. Peter and Paul, the current Ukrainian Catholic church in Rosthern, is not the community’s original church. Rosthern originally had no Ukrainian Catholic church and people attended a small country church called St. Mary’s nearby. Unfortunately, St. Mary’s was struck by lightning (date unknown) and burned to the ground. The Seventh Day Adventists came to the rescue, donated their building for use by the Ukrainian Catholics, and had it moved to the location of the current church. The congregation grew in number and, by 1955, they needed more space. This is when the construction of the Sts. Peter and Paul church that we see today began. Interviewee Millie (Emily) Kawcuniak has vivid memories of the building process.
